The thirty artists here in the studio are a delightful mixture of age, gender, professionals and retirees who really enjoy their creativity. Some have been attending for many years. They seem to thrive, not only on the tutoring, but also the companionship and inspiration of the other artists. Most exhibit and sell, work on specific commissions or just paint for family, friends or their own pleasure.
In the past we produced works in watercolour, pen & wash and pastel; but for some time we have been exclusively using oils. A number have embraced heat-dried (Genesis) paints.
All new students will be encouraged to use this new medium because these amazing paints offer incredible advantages for both teacher and student. No longer do we have to wait for layers to dry before proceeding with successive washes or glazes. Conversely. Genesis paints give us as much time as we need to work on intricate areas. The paint will not dry until we are ready. No paint is wasted when it dries on the palette or in the tubes. Also the artist does not have to struggle with transporting a wet painting home in the car after class.
